We sent four guys out to Super32 tournament this weekend. We got a lot of good matches in and we lost some tough ones. As a former wrestler and now a coach I kind of see things a little differentially. As a wrestler I know the feeling of going to all these tournament and wanting to win every match. I also know the feeling of losing matches that I knew I probably should have won. But as a man of the sport for the last 20 years, I can say this will not be the last lost that we take!!! The most important thing we can do is look at what we have accomplished and be happy with it and move on. The matches that we lost… well that’s a different story. The matches that we lose are the most important matches. The matches that we lose are the ones that we can learn the most from. We must take those matches as a learning tool. We can look back and see what we did wrong and see how we can improve. Because as wrestlers and humans we can always improve!!! We can walk away from the lost bout saying well I need to improve my shape, my technique, my physical and mental toughness. Maybe I need to be more aggressive or maybe I just wasn't prepared. These are the questions that I always asked myself and I figured it out and I attacked the problem. This is why going to these tournaments are important. They are important so we can work the kinks out early. We can figure out what we need to work on and fix the problem early. So I just want to say congrats to the guys who went and let’s start working on the problems!!!

As of yesterday we have 41 wrestlers signed up for season this year. It is going to be an exciting season. We have the rest of this week and all of next week for Pre- season. Then we will take a week off and then season will be here and we will hit it hard. The guys are doing a great job and I’m thinking that (Just like the six sense that dogs have when they can sense something wrong, or the sixth sense of Adults with many many years behind them sensing bad weather in their bones) these kids sixth sense is kicking in and that they too can sense a great season coming. Again Coach Hall, Coach Smith, Coach Ward, and I can't stop talking about how excited we are. Go Cards!!!

As for the Triva:
1.) Davison faced Bedford in the semi- finals (with Casey Streeter pinning his opponent in overtime), sending us to the finals over Novi/
2.) Coach Elliot wrestled at LSU untill they got rid of their program. Coach Elliot's teammate and roomate was no other then Iowa States head coach Kevin Jackson.

More than half of you got the trivia right. John Phillips was Coach Halls first State Champion. It was an exciting day and John was the beginning of many more to come. Chase won States the year after and unfortunately Joe Streeter wasn't a State Champion but he should of been and he was a blast to watch wrestle. As for the second one, 2000 was the year that Davison won its first State title under Coach Halls helm. It was an amazing tournament and if it wasn't for Davison's Casey Streeter, coming back from a 7-2 deficit to put it into overtime and pinning his kid in overtime for bonus points, Davison would have not made it out of semis. Then Davison went on and took care of Bedford in the finals.
